Slovakia on the Way to Gender Equality 2006
Apart from the archived research "Gender equality and labour market in the Slovakia in 2006" interviews were held with unemployed women and experts on labour market in three regions of Slovakia {Nitra, Banska Bystrica and Presov regions} as part of the project "Slovakia on the Way to Gender Equality". Within the second part of the project, which is not a component of this series interviews were held in each region in the district with the lowest and the highest unemployment rate. In each district there were 5 interviews with unemployed women and 5 with experts. Thirty interviews were made altogether

Apart from representative quantitative survey there was a qualitative research in six Slovakian districts that was focused at the issue of a long term unemployment of women (30 respondents, 5 from each district) and on experts working with long term unemployed (30 experts, 5 from each district).

The aim of the survey was to chart the issue of gender equality in the Slovakia with special emphasis on inequalities on the labour market. For the reasons of the trends study also a few questions discussing the topic of gender equality used in the previous research were included. Research devoted to the following areas: general perception of the status of women in the society; what should change as far as the status is concerned and which institutes should promote it; views on the status of women in the area of remuneration, career and political advancement, approach to studies, personal experience with the favouritism of the opposite sex at work and at school, views on the retirement age unification, how to help the socially and other handicapped ; willingness to travel abroad for work; use of computers and the Internet connection at home

The resident population of the Slovak Republic, persons 18 years old and over.

Data collection was performed in two stages: 2431 questionnaires were performed from 23th until 29th May, remaining 90 questionnaires were filled in by the inquirers of the MVK Agency from 8th to 12th June 2006 that is approximately a day before the parliamentary elections on 17th June 2006. Field work was performed by trained survey network of the MVK Agency. Altogether 506 inquirers in 319 communities and towns of all districts worked on the survey. Thanks to the amount of the sample this is so far the biggest representative social survey that has ever been performed in the Slovakia regarding this topic

There were 2521 respondents who answered questions in face-to-face interviews.
MVK Agency performed the survey in the frame of an omnibus survey "Tribúna názorov - Platform of views 64/2006", in which the questionnaire contained not only questions of the survey "Slovakia on the Way to Gender Equality", but a set of questions on other social issues as well. Questions number 1-3 in the questionnaire were not related to the survey "Slovakia on the Way to Gender Equality". The order of questions in the used questionnaire does not correspond either to the original questionnaire nor to the arrangement of entries in the data file. Therefore as sample the questionnaire called "Slovakia on the Way to Gender Equality"is recommended. There is an original printed questionnaire"Tribúna názorov" together with pdf. format. Field work was realised by trained survey network MVK Agency. Altogether 506 inquirers in 319 communities and towns of all districts worked on the survey. Thanks to the amount of samples this is so far the largest representative social survey that has ever been realised in the Slovakia on the mentioned topic. In the data file, answers to (semi)open question sor other possibilities were additionally written. Specifically in the following variables other possibilities were addinionally coded q4_1 up to q4_3, q14, q15, q18_1 až q18_5, q31, q36, q38, q39 . Variable s"education" (for 4 categories) and ""residence" (for 6 categories) were addinionally re-categorized by creating new variables.
