The research is the 14th conducted by the Institute for Public Opinion Research in Bratislava, which was the workplace of the Office of Information from 1947 to 1950. The research was carried out on 22 October 1949 and covers a broad range of topics: food supply following the removal of rationing cards for bread, flour, baked goods and potatoes; a comparison of economic conditions with those under the first Czechoslovak Republic and the Slovak State; reading habits and satisfaction with domestic book production; Slovak Book Week; construction of industrial enterprises; confidence in savings institutions; belief in the peaceful resolution of international disputes; and attitudes towards the Soviet Union's announcement of possessing atomic weapons. SASD provides a reconstruction of the research results, based on final reports prepared for government authorities and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Slovakia. Neither the data nor the original questionnaire are available; SASD offers a reconstruction of the questions used in the questionnaire and the basic results from the research are accessible online in an Excel file. The research was carried out using a purposive sampling method to most accurately reflect the estimated structure of the population of Slovak society at that time. Since it was a post-war period and the last comprehensive census was in 1930, with the next only in 1950, quota sampling could not be used. However, the character of the sample suggests a selection based on multiple characteristics corresponding to the structure of Slovak society at the time of the closest census in 1950.

The survey was designed to capture the diversity of the population in Slovakia in terms of gender, occupation, age, nationality, and religious affiliation.
The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews by approximately 200 external interviewers from the institute, most of whom worked as educational and cultural workers in Slovakia. The interviewers were trained on the research methodology in writing and through informational brochures. The interviewers received the questionnaires by mail along with instructions on what types of respondents to seek out in their local areas. The interviewers returned the completed questionnaires by mail.
