The study has provided information and insights into the current state of social inequalities and social stratification in Slovak society, the economic and social characteristics of the main social classes and status groups as fundamental elements of the stratification system, on the life chances of members of individual classes and status groups in our society, on intragenerational and intergenerational social mobility, on the sources and mechanisms of social mobility, and on the social contexts and consequences of social inequalities. The main results of the research include: a description of the current state of social stratification in Slovak society through the lens of the EGP, ESeC, and ESeG class classifications, and a comparison of this with the findings of previous research; testing the validity of the EGP, ESeC, and ESeG class classifications in Slovak society; examining the relationship between the social stratification of Slovak society and the lifestyle of Slovakia’s residents; to identify the existence and determine the nature of the status structure of Slovak society based on an analysis of the occupational composition of married and cohabiting couples; to determine the extent of absolute and relative, intergenerational, and intragenerational mobility in Slovakia, and to analyze the main patterns of social mobility. Slovakia Slovakia Individual The population of Slovakia aged 18–65 One-time survey Agentúra MEDIAN SK s.r.o. The survey respondents were selected using a multistage random stratified sampling method. The first stage of the selection was based on a random stratified selection of primary sampling units (PSUs). Data collection took place in 200 sampling units. The stratification of the sample was based on a combination of region (8 categories) and size of place of residence (3 categories). The second stage of selection involved the random selection of households within the PSUs using the random walk method with predefined precise rules. Subsequently, the selection of the respondent—a member of the visited household—was carried out using the “nearest birthday” method, with the stipulation that survey respondents should be individuals aged 18 to 65. Households in which the selected respondent was not present were visited repeatedly by interviewers. An address was classified as “unreachable” after at least three unsuccessful visits, as determined by telephone and email follow-ups with the respondents using the PAPI technique. The questionnaire was available only in Slovak. The survey response rate—that is, the ratio of visited households to completed interviews—was 79.4%; 1,727 respondents (20.53%) declined to participate. The total size of the survey sample is 3,597 respondents aged 18 to 65. The interviewer recorded the respondent’s answers either in the electronic version of the questionnaire on their laptop (CAPI method) or in the printed paper version of the questionnaire (PAPI method). Data collection was carried out using a combination of CAPI and PAPI techniques in a ratio of 1,725:1,872. Data collected using the CAPI technique were verified through spot checks, and data collected using the PAPI technique were verified via telephone and email follow-ups with the respondents. The questionnaire was available only in Slovak.
