Data Data catalogue Holidays and traditions in the life of the people of the Slovak republic study description | list of variables | data access Identification Number: SASD 2006004 Author: Národné osvetové centrum Date of collection: 2006-10-01 to 2006-10-31 Data collector: Sampling procedure: Quota sampling Number of cases: 1155 Abstract: The survey was aimed at establishing the attitudes of the population of the Slovak Republic to public holidays and traditions of our nation. The primary focus was to determine the degree of knowledge people have on the representatives of our culture, statehood, and the missionaries from the dawn of our history - the period of Great Moravia - the first state established in the territory of today's Slovak Republic. Furthermore, the survey concentrated on finding out the following: the respondents' personal assessment of the significance of all public holidays, their interest or lack of interest in celebrating individual holidays as well as the manner of celebrating or observing specific public holidays. A separate block of questions examined not only the level of interest in the oldest period of our history - Great Moravia and the work of Constantine and Methodius in our territory but also the knowledge of state and church representatives from this period (the rulers Pribina, Mojmír, Rastislav, Svätopluk and Koceľ and missionaries Constantine, Methodius, and Gorazd) as well as the importance of commemorating the leading figures of Great Moravia and the importance of preserving and cultivating national, cultural and Christian traditions. The survey was carried out on a representative sample of 1155 respondents from the adult population via traditional quota sampling using the quota characteristics of gender, age, education, the size of the settlement, nationality, district, region as well as religious denomination, and economic status.
