Data Data catalogue Brain drain 2020 study description | list of variables | data access Identification Number: SASD 2020009 Author: Bahna, Miloslav, Institute for Sociology of SAS, Klemensova 19, 813 64 Bratislava Date of collection: 2020-11-06 to 2020-11-23 Data collector: Sampling procedure: In the first step, 277 interviewers, located all over Slovakia, were contacted with a request to find out the situation in their near or distant surroundings regarding the possibility of conducting interviews with parents of children who have completed a full bachelor's degree, or a full master's degree, or both a full bachelor's degree and a full master's degree in higher education abroad in the period from 1999 to 2018. This initial screening phase lasted approximately 1 week. It resulted in a positive response from 119 interviewers who reported between 1 and 6 such target persons. At the same time, already in this initial phase, the state/country in which the child had studied was surveyed and it was found that the proportion of respondents whose child had studied in the Czech Republic was in the defined range of 60%-70%. Number of cases: 359 Abstract: The Brain Drain 2020 research offers answers to the following questions: from which families do the graduates of university studies abroad come, what secondary schools did they attend and what were their study efforts at these schools, on what basis do they decide when choosing a school abroad, what decides about returning to Slovakia, what is their professional and personal situation after graduation, what is the opinion of their parents about studying abroad and about their return / staying abroad. The research builds on the Brain Drain 2014 research and replicates the questions used in it. Compared to the Brain drain 2014 research, questions on tuition fees and on the use of placement agencies are added. In the research, parents were contacted whose one or more children had completed a full first and/or second degree at a foreign university or college between 1999 and 2018. All respondents were sought by the survey agency interviewers on the basis of this assignment. Citation: BAHNA, Miloslav. Brain drain 2020. [dátový súbor]. Slovenský archív sociálnych dát, 2022.
