Sampling procedure: Population: Total non-institutionalized population of Slovakia, 18 years and older. The survey is based on probability sampling. The sample is drawn from AISA's own data-base of about 95 thousand names and addresses collected originally from the 1994 October election lists which were continually updated by lists provided by local administration. This database was established using a four-stage cluster random sample proportional to size based on approximately 250 sampling units spread over Slovakia. The sample for this particular survey was drawn from this database as follows: (1) About 1,400 names and addresses were selected from the data-base by a random procedure;(2) Addresses were assigned to about 113 sampling points;(3) Selection of respondents within households used the last birthday rule. Any replacement of the target person was strictly forbidden. Selection is done: 50% Male and 50% Female.

Abstract: WVS World Values Survey 1998 was conducted for the second time in Slovakia. It was firs time conducted within common survey in ČSFR in 1990 and was coordinated by experts from Czech republic on the sample of population of Czechoslovakia. The first wave of World Values Survey was carried out in 1981, but Czechoslovakia did not participate in it. The main goal is to analyze changes of values over time on global cross-cultural worldwide basis. To examined fields belongs: work, family, satisfaction with life, religion and morals, political attitudes, society, economics, aims of respondent, national identity. The second module was carried out in Slovak republic independently in 1998. www.worldvaluessurvey.org
